Choose one piece of art (Venus of Willingdorf) from the cultures and time periods we have discussed.
You will then make connections between that object and at least 3 things from this list:
music
dance
literature
politics
economics
historical events
technology
religion
You must stick with the time periods that we cover in this class (500 CE in Europe, 1500 CE in the rest of the world). Think about who, what, when where, why and how. Give the background history for the pieces. Why were they important when they were created? Why do we find them important now?
You will need to have your topic approved by me. Refer to the end of the syllabus for due dates.
Requirements for the paper:
1. 3-5 pages in length
2. Includes 2 outside sources (the textbook is not a source) for this paper. You need to have at least one book and/or one scholarly journal article. So for example, your bibliography can have 2 books or 1 book and 1 scholarly journal article or two scholarly journal articles. I will not accept website resources. I want you to use scholarly sources. Although the journal articles can be found on the internet they are journal articles from scholarly sources not websites or blogs etc.
3. At least one image accompanying the text. The images are not included in the 3-5 page length.
