The word art is a reasonably broad word. Art can be so many different things from drawings to paintings all the way to photography and even act. When you think of the word artist, most of us merely think of someone who is creative or skilled, and we don’t typically think about what exactly their art is. When I think of art, my mind immediately goes to Picasso or de’Vinci.
Personally, I never really thought of drawings when I think artist, but in reality, that is definitely an art. Opposed to paintings which uses brushes, paint, color, and depth, drawings typically use charcoal, shading, and lines. To the untrained eye or the art challenged, such as myself they seem incredibly similar however they aren’t as similar as one may think. Just because person excels at drawing doesn’t mean they will excel at painting and vice versa, it is a different level of creativity and in fact an entirely different skill and form of art.
Another form of art that may seem familiar would be printmaking and photography. Both of these medias ten to use the same terminology but one has a more modern approach while the other is not so advanced. Printmaking has been around for decades; the earliest report was in China the 868 CE printed book. This form of art is made to replace other scenes by hand , it applies four specific categories that have several sub categories. While photography is also made to replace views, it is a less explicit process and is the modern approach of these two art forms. Some argue that it is not done by hand, it isn’t actual art, but this is a debatable topic bc not everyone can capture a photograph worthy of framing.
Just because there are many similarities between the different art forms, it doesn’t mean that all art is the same. For example, take into consideration the color blue. Blue has a variety of shades and not all of them are alike, they are similar but not the same however they are still considered blue. Just because two things may appear to be the same it does not mean that they are in fact the same. There are so many ways to appreciate the different art forms if you are willing to do the research and open your horizons.
