Research Paper Guidelines
Social science researchers contribute different perspectives and considerations to our understanding of family and interpersonal violence and how it can be addressed.This research can be broadly grouped into three major theoretical perspectives:
• The psychiatric model
• The social-psychological model
• The sociocultural model
Your research paper will involve analyzing extant research to examine the strengths and shortcomings of these three theoretical models. Your textbook provides a starting point for each, outlining the theory and providing examples of its application.
Your paper will be structured using A.P.A. formatting and will be divided into four clearly delineated parts:
Your paper should be formatted as follows:

1. Title Page: Title of your paper and your name
2. Abstract: An abstract is a very short (usually one paragraph), clear and concise summation of the entire paper. Your abstract should provide enough of a preview that a typical reader will know whether or not they wish to read the paper. It should reveal both the purpose and conclusions of your paper. Helpful hint: Because your abstract is really a summary of your entire paper it is best to construct it after you have written your paper.
3. Introduction
• Explain the focus of your paper and your purpose
• State your plan of organization
4. Content
• Explanation and brief discussion of the three theoretical perspectives
• Literature Review: Research findings on the contribution of each theory toward furthering our understanding family and intimate partner violence.
• Discussion and recommendations
4. Conclusion: State what you learned and found. You may also describe interesting observations, new questions, and any need for future work here.
6. Bibliography Page: A list of the references you used in writing your paper.

Your research paper will be a minimum of five pages in length. This means five pages in actual substantive content. Your title page, abstract and reference pages do not count toward the five pages. The paper is to be formatted according to APA style, with a title page, abstract, main body and bibliography. You must use at least five different references to the textbook, readings (these may be from the course or from other credible sources) and/or videos viewed.
Your Research Paper will be graded on four criteria:
1. A.P.A. format.
2. At least five pages in content.
3. Reference to at least five different readings and/or videos.
4. Quality of content and organization
Make sure you responsibly cite all references to the work of others.
