Part 1 Pay Gap
Your textbook explains the three major explanations for the continuing wage gap between men and women in the paid labor force: human capital theory, the dual labor market, and gender segregation.

In your discussion post, answer the following questions:

Find an example of a successful effort to narrow the wage gap — either a government policy or a private company that addressed the issue with its own internal policies. Summarize the strategies or methods involved and the effects those strategies or methods produced.
Could these same strategies or methods be effective across all areas of the labor force?
What is one possible reason the wage gap has not narrowed across all jobs?

Part 2 Culture

The authors of the textbook introduce a concept known as the pornification of culture. They don’t include a great deal of information about what that looks like in our culture. Do your own research on this topic to find out more about what this concept is, and how it is expressed in American culture. Include citations in APA format for any resources you utilized in your research.

In your discussion post address the following questions:

Describe two specific examples of pornification. What effects have these examples had?
How does pornification affect society in general?
Would functionalists argue that this concept is functional for society? Explain why or why not.

Part 3 Designer baby
The topic of having a “designer” baby is one that can be very controversial. Dictionary online defines a designer baby as, “a baby whose genetic makeup has been selected in order to eradicate a particular defect, or to ensure that a particular gene is present”.

The topic has many pros and cons, and these pros and cons are related to all backgrounds, and beliefs. Research more about designer babies and take a stand either for or against this topic.

In your discussion post address the following:

Explain your position, and why you made that selection.
What information did you find that supports your thinking?
What are some reasons that someone might disagree with you?
