Behaviorism and Other Minds
Write about Behaviorism and Other Minds.( Read: Mandik, Chapter Five.)
Your short papers are to be one page (approximately 300 word) double-spaced papers (with normal margins and normal font sizes). They are due by the beginning of class approximately every other week according to the schedule on the Course Schedule.
One page is not very long, so you won’t have time to give a full introduction and set up. Nor will you have time to make multiple points. So what I want you to do is to make one point, quickly, efficiently, and thoroughly. Give the briefest of setups, assuming that your reader has read and thought about what you’re writing about. For example, you might want to start a paper as follows, “One of the objections to Descartes’ substance dualism is that if Descartes is right, any mind-body causation violates the principle that the physical world is causally closed. I don’t think this is a strong objection because …”
As you work on your short paper, remember that I know that you only have a page (not very much room to fully develop an argument) and that I know that you are a novice. That’s part of the challenge, of course, but also very much taken into account in reading and grading these papers.
