Your assignment is to write a personal philosophy of nursing. Your personal philosophy of nursing does exist, even if you have never articulated it before. Your personal nursing philosophy is the foundation of your day-to-day nursing practice. Your nursing philosophy reflects the principles from which you conduct your thinking and your behavior. Development of a personal nursing philosophy is not merely an academic exercise, but rather can guide you in the daily decisions you make as a professional registered nurse. It will be beneficial for you to complete this assignment and then to review and revise your personal nursing philosophy from time to time as many employers may ask you about your personal philosophy of nursing during an interview. Or, you may need one to apply for graduate school.
-Primary Audience: The primary audience is the general nursing community including your peers and nursing leaders.
-Tone: This assignment is to be written in first person as it reflects your own personal beliefs and values. However, you will also correlate the values, beliefs, and ethical standards of the nursing profession.
-Secondary Audience: As your instructor, I will read your paper to evaluate how effectively you have addressed your primary audience.
-Topic: Nursing Philosophy
-Begin by reviewing the example of one nurse’s personal philosophy in Box 8-6 on page 172 in your textbook (Black, 8th ed.). Then, use the template provided to write your own philosophy of nursing. The template must be used. Write your paper in the template provided as a Word document.
-Remember, this is YOUR philosophy of nursing–do NOT use or copy any portion of the example provided.
– Your paper will be written in APA 6th edition format including a Title and Reference page. No abstract is needed.
-Organization: Include a substantive and comprehensive introduction and conclusion to your paper. Use of Level One APA Headings are required and are included on the template.
-Length: Your paper should be a minimum of 3 full, double-spaced pages not including the title or reference pages.
-Include a minimum of two (2) scholarly references; one (1) must be a nursing journal article. Use proper APA paraphrasing, in-text citations, and corresponding reference for all sources.
