1. Experiment 1: Design

Using an example, describe a trial in the semantically-related condition and its corresponding trial in the baseline condition (use an example from the Appendix, not the one from the text or from class). Explain why the baseline condition was included.

2. Experiments 1 and 2: Results

Compare the results in of Experiment 1 (Figure 2) and Experiment 2 (Figure 5), pointing out both similarities and differences.

3. Experiment 2: Theoretical Implications

Explain how the results can be accounted for using the notion of spreading of activation. What would a graph of the results look like if the hypothesis tested was not confirmed? You can either describe it in words, or draw it.

4. Experiment 2: Alternative methods

If you didn’t have an eye-tracker, you could use cross-modal priming (see class discussion of the Swinney and Allopenna et al. studies). Describe a critical trial in your proposed experiment (use an example from the Appendix of the Yee and Sedivy paper).
