Theme Analysis in the Book “Famous Last Word by Katie Alendar”

Introduction

In this book, the author Katie Alender follows through a tale of a horrendous murder, mayhem, mystery, mixed with romance in the Hills of Hollywood. It basically blends the darker grit and the Hollywood glitz which lies beneath each other. The author follows through the escapes of one Willa, who is the main character and Marie Antoinette, a serial killer in Hollywood and the motivations in their endeavors. The book’s title, “Famous Last Word” is derived from one of the chapters in the book. It is used because the serial killer employs the “famous last words of the actors and actor” in movies when killing his victims. Discussion

It is fascinating to note how human beings are drawn to a thing that hurts them most. Willa who is the main character of this story feels remorse for the untimely heart attack and subsequent demise of her father. In order to absolve herself of the blame arising from the father’s untimely death, she tries several times to get in touch with his spirit. She does not know that this would cause her problems. If she had let the matter to rest, then it is probable that she couldn’t have faced the kind of problems she experienced. Her efforts in contacting the spiritual realm makes her encounter a troubled ghost which wants to attract her attention in a desperate way. The scenes with the ghosts are exceedingly terrifying not only to her but the audience as well. These scenes come to haunt her even later in her life. The feisty sort kind of ghost makes Willa scared and uncomfortable and the encounter does not help in addressing her fear. The lack of this fulfillment instigates frustration and hunger over her fate.

In order to solve the puzzle of her newfound mystery of the spiritual realm, Willa goes ahead to seek partnership with the town’s serial killer introduced to her by her step-father. The step-father had introduced the famous serial killer to his step-daughter out of the assumption that she will keep herself safe from the monster who was mainly targeting young women to execute a movie style murder on them. Rather than keeping herself away from the serial murderer, she instead sees an ally in this monster and becomes obsessed with him. She therefore, devices a mission to meet the serial killer whom she thinks that he will perhaps help her in settling the dilemma of her haunting. As expected, Willa finds herself in another danger after successfully meeting the serial-killer. She finds herself in more danger when the actual identity of the serial killer is exposed. The point is that she should have kept away from this serial killer to keep herself from this dilemma.

Conclusion

The puzzle of human beings attracted to things that causes mystery to them is something that needs a scientific solution. There are people who trust the future and the unknown simply because they are unknown. Furthermore, people want to make their situations better in every way possible. In this book, Willa who is the main character is always interested in things to come to haunt her life eventually. The moral idea here is that people need to be careful when making decisions about their life.
