Assignment 1: Recruiting in the Age of Technology

Objective: After the completion of this assignment, you will be able to explain the primary trends in recruiting technology and discuss the implications for recruiters in the field.

Background: The world of recruiting has changed dramatically over the past two decade, shifting from a near-single-mode of newspaper postings to, initially, a world of online job boards to, most recently, job board aggregators, search engine optimization (SEO), and social media. Further, the technology used in recruiting is accelerating, with mobile being the next wave of innovation.

Instructions: Conduct an internet search and answer each of the following questions:

What is the difference between a job board (like Careerbuilder and Monster) and an aggregator (like indeed.com)?

What is “search engine optimization?” Why would a company invest in SEO? How does it change what we do in recruiting? What metrics are useful in measuring success of SEO?

LinkedIn.com has quickly become one of the primary sources for identifying passive candidates. Review the site and describe the tools (i.e., job postings and recruiter seats) available to companies. What do they do?

What new innovations are being introduced for mobile? Specifically, focus on the concept of “mobile enabled” versus “mobile apply?”

Deliverable: Submit a paper (minimum 500 words) with detailed answers to each of the questions listed above. Post your response in the assignment dropbox (do not attach as a document) by the specified due date. As always, cite your sources in appropriate APA format
