2016-17 ? Enhancing Employability Through Work Related Learning
Assignment 2: Individual Client Project (80% of the final module grade)
Learning Outcomes
This assignment addresses learning outcomes 1, 2 and 3 for the module.
MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of this module a student will be able to:
1. Set clear and achievable objectives in a learning plan for their personal, vocational and academic development. Including the ability to develop and negotiate clear, practical and realistic terms of reference which are then shown to be clearly achieved in the final report.
2. Analyse, evaluate and reflect on their own performance and learning experiences by researching the appropriate theoretical frameworks and applying these and including the development of the achievement of their objectives in a learning report.
3. Produce documentary reports appropriate for the needs of the target audience that have clarity and are effective in presenting the outcomes. This will include the application of selected subject knowledge and skills to specific industry situations
Requirement:
You are required to undertake a consultancy project for a client to provide a solution to a particular problem or issue. The project may take many forms but should be related to your specific subject discipline and the outcome should be a project report and presentation. For example a marketing student may assist an organisation with focussing its marketing activities by writing a marketing plan for the organisation. A retail student may undertake comparative research between stores or specific research into consumer behaviour with regard to a particular product range producing a research report for their client. Students will be provided with advice and guidance about their live project and its suitability on a one to one basis.
Engagement with Project Client.
Projects must be completed by due date for the report and the level of engagement with the client needs to be agreed with your client and supervisor. This will vary depending on the nature of your project. Students are expected to work on their project for between 80 and 120 hours although some students may wish to do more. The amount of time that you engage with your project client is up to you and you need to agree this with your client. Some students may wish to spend 2-3 weeks working fulltime, whilst others may find 10 ? 15 full or 20 ? 30 half days more suitable. Some projects will require you to be based at your client?s organisation whereas others may involve more desk research therefore most of the project can be undertaken offsite. Please ensure you agree the arrangements with your client and refer to the arrangements in your terms of reference. If you need resources from your client these should also be referred to in your terms of reference. Resources may include use of telephone, PC, individual?s time, consumables, desk/office space etc.
The nature of the project will vary depending on the work undertaken for your client. However, it should be professionally presented in a business report format and it should:
Provide the client with a report that details all work undertaken. It should be written for the client and include any additional details or material as an appendix.
It should contain:
o An executive summary
o An introduction
o Terms of reference
o Content/Findings etc of the project
o Conclusions or Recommendations
o Appropriate appendices if required
The project should be a minimum of 4000 words excluding appendices but there is no maximum limit. It should be an appropriate length for your clients? needs. Appendices should be used appropriately for additional information.
You may optionally submit details of any other documentation supplied to your client for your live project but not included in the main report (e.g. presentations, leaflets, posters, letters, minutes of meetings etc.) if relevant. These will be considered as part of your content mark if appropriate. Discuss with your supervisor if you are unsure whether to include additional information.
Marking Criteria:
Your report will be assessed on your ability to fulfil the following criteria:
Use of subject specific knowledge 25%
Demonstration of research/activities 15%
Findings and recommendations 45%
Professionally Presented work appropriate to clients? needs 15%
