1) One of the pivotal events in the history of Greece was the Persian War. How were the Greeks able to win this war? How did the world of the Greeks change after their tremendous victory? In what way were these changes both positive AND negative? You will want to address issues such as the cultural impact and the politics that led to the Peloponnesian War.

2) Trace the development of the Egyptian civilization from the Old Kingdom, through the Middle Kingdom, to the New Kingdom. What were the unique features of these three periods of Egyptian history? How did they differ from each other? Who were among the important pharaohs and figures from these kingdoms? Were there major differences in the practice of religion?

3) Discuss the rise of civilization. What specific developments took place that allowed people to start living in villages and towns? What other advancements allowed for the development of culture? In what areas did this first occur?
