Some students feel quite comfortable at college. Most of us, however, find it quite challenging to cope with all the permanent stress factors, – anybody who is or has ever been a student will tell you that. Regardless of how warm our memories of our college years may be several years after graduation, it is known for a fact that being a student is one of the most stressful occupations there can be. This is an especially acute issue for freshmen who are new to the college environment and still have to organize their lives as students. ” Sadly, there are still so many professors and education scholars who share the old school approach to the academic process that tells us that students must deal with all the written assignments themselves, without any third-party assistance. What they fail to realize is that the amount of these assignments has grown exponentially since the stone age when they were students themselves. The reasons are, however, quite objective, and not just laziness or decreased learning abilities. Let us try and take a more detailed look to understand what goes on in a freshman’s head when given a task to write an essay.
The freshman bluntly looks at the assignment, desperately trying to figure out what s/he has to do about it. Clearly, the essay has to be written, but a myriad of questions arise: “How do I actually write my paper? ”, “Where do I begin? ”, “How do I outline my essay? ”, “What do I write in its each section? ”, “How do I format my essay? ”, “How do I have it all done before the deadline? ”, and so on and so forth. If all these questions alone do not get you stunned or disappointed, your logical step would be to address these questions to the professor. However, as mentioned before, professors seldom remember what it’s like to be a student. So, the chances are that either you will get a generic answer like “It is up to you to sort it all out,” or you will be bombarded with numerous guidelines that will likely confuse you even more.
