Today’s pop Hip-Hop is ultimately postmodern—i.e., pure surface, fashion, glitter, uncommitted, commercial—whose lyrics have forsaken its modern Rap roots—roots of depth, blood, soul, struggle, rebellion.
Has there been an evolution in terms of the lyrics from the modern and
meaningfulness of rap to the postmodern and meaninglessness of
today’s hip-hop? Or are new artists surfaces today who are committed to the “blood, soul, struggle, and rebellion” of the older Modern Rappers? Explain with pertinent examples.
