A. Explain the need for developing strategic alternatives and why strategic alternatives are important for a successful organization. Use scholarly and peer-reviewed sources to support your explanation.

Examine industry policy changes and the need to develop a flexible strategic plan, specifically, how the source of the policy (such as federal mandated changes, industry best practices, or state requirements) impacts the need to develop a flexible strategic plan. Use appropriate sources to support your claims.
C. Make strategic alternative recommendations for the healthcare organization in your case study. Be sure these recommendations address the specific policy issue changes faced by the healthcare organization.

An organization can be successful if they are able to adjust to a change and be flexible. The management must be able to expect flexible strategic plans that may be coming and should have alternative strategies in place. If for some reason the original strategy does not go as planned, then change will have to be made. The staff should be ready to accept change and understand all the guidelines that come with the changes and be able to have the ability to create a strategy with the lowest effect on the organization. Anyone that second guesses themselves is not meant to be in the business field. If you have a certain goal you need to be with the people that support and see the same thing you do for the organization. When you do that, you have people in the organization that are interested just as much as you.
I recommend that the organization should employ other forms of providers which can be
supervised by a physician in the emergency room department so they can save in salaries. If the organization opens an after-hours clinic for the non-emergency patients they can be seen in a different department that is in the same building. The hospital can then save on emergency supplies and the staff and their insurance will only be charged as a visit to the clinic and not an emergency room visit.

External Forces
The external forces that are affecting the Emanuel Medical Center are attacking from many angle’s. On one side we have the government placing laws in to affect without consulting the health care field. I understand as do many other health care employees regarding why the EMTALA, but the government does not understand that this gives an open door to all individuals to receive medical services without the responsibility to pay for services rendered. We all understand that sick individuals must receive treatment but to some degree individuals should have to pay a certain percentage or amount prior to leaving the emergency department. As for individuals that knowingly place themselves in harm’s way should have to be responsible for a larger percentage.
These individuals would fall under the categories of gang members, patients with illnesses that continue to perform actions that further place their health in to question. This is viewed due to many patients that have cancer or those that have children that have cancer. These individuals are placing 2nd loans on their homes as well as selling all personal items to get as much help as possible. These individuals spend time reaching out to strangers, organizations and the public to ask for assistance. But these gang members, drug addicts or individuals who knowingly cause themselves further harm. Once they leave the hospital they continue along the same path.
Another item that they have against them is that they offer services to a small community which in turn places them in a predicament. Due to not being able to keep up the pace of being innovative and have the same technology as the hospital’s that offer services to bigger communities. Along with insurance agencies that refuse to pay a higher reimbursement, as well as insurance reimbursements taking long to arrive for bills to get paid. The EMC organization is placed in a situation in which they will need to figure out what departments, specialties will be affected. The organization has also thought about perhaps closing the emergency department.
I would suggest that the organization step back before making quick changes prior to fully evaluating the repercussions to the actions that are taken. If the external forces are not taken in to consideration, there is a big chance the organization will not be able to full evolve from the changes they have make. Also, by not letting the organization to fulling take the amount of time needed to fully see what the outcomes from different views the organization are will not fully understand what works and work does not. An organization strives to be the best but for that to occur the organization must learn what works for the as well as what does not work for them. Another way for the organization to address threats from other competitive organizations is for the to take on competitive benefits among the organizations in your field. As well as for organizations to offer career building training plans.

The prompt for this journal asked you to evaluate the competitors for your hospital and identify both their competitive advantages and your own. You were then to describe how these advantages could be used to mitigate the threat your competitors pose. This was not evident in your paper in a detailed, robust manner. I was impressed with your level of analysis of the regulatory environment and want you to continue to think along these lines moving forward. However, you should also spend some time looking at your local competition. This will be very important for future assignments.
