Complete the Response with the following questions:

1. David Lindsay- Abaire’s teacher/mentor was playwright Marsha Norman.

She once told him that he should write about something that scared him. A

few years passed and he still had yet to find something that scared him

enough, and then he became a father and the fear of losing a child became

very real to Lindsay-Abaire. Put yourself in a playwright’s mindset and

answer the following questions:

What do you fear most at this point in your life? Why?

How might you write about that fear?

If you were a playwright, what story would you tell?

2. Put yourself within the context of the play. Which character do you find

yourself most identifying with? Why? Would you react the same ways?

Why? Would you react differently? Why? Use supporting evidence from the

text in your response.

3. Choose one character to analyze. Use textual evidence to show their belief

systems. At their core, who is this person and what is most important to

them. Why did you choose to analyze this character?

1. What was your favorite moment in the play? Why?
