Effects of extracurricular activities (ECAs) on student welfare
The essay should include two sections a Findings section and a Discussion section.
The findings section should include the headings
-‘Nature of ECAs in Jamaica’ which talks about the types of ECAs in Jamaica, policies surrounding the implementation of ECAs and how they are supported/funded, etc. ‘Attitudes of Jamaican Students towards ECAs’
-should talk about participation levels and barriers to their participation.
For example, lack of interest, safety issues (such as the lack of transportation), lack of dedication and commitment which finds students giving up when the training becomes too difficult, and issues of funding (students from low socioeconomic backgrounds can’t afford them) etc.
Attitudes of teachers towards ECAs
-Their perceived advantages and disadvantages of ECAs
-Factors that inhibits their participation in ECAs. For example lack of interest, cuts into their personal time, they are not paid for The Discussion section
-Low participation of students may be because of the large attention placed on competitive ECAs that lessens the other activities in the eyes of students more so if the other students are not qualified enough to participate in those competitive ECAs.
-Teachers may not be selling the importance of ECAs to students based on their unwillingness to oversee the activities hence the low participation.
-No clear policies exist on how and who should carry out the ECAs so both students and teachers do not give much significance to ECAs.
-etc
