Use the information in the presentations and readings from Modules/Weeks 4 and 5, along with the information in the Slave Trade Database (http://slavevoyages.org/), to complete this Discussion Board Forum. Your thread will require you to examine the data from a specific slave ship. You must select a slave ship to study from the database; there are plenty for each student to select a different one.
You will need to contact your instructor via email as soon as possible with your choice. The instructor will either confirm your selection and tell you to proceed, or let you know that ship has already been taken and ask you to make another selection. You must get approval from the instructor before posting your thread. There is significant data for each slave ship. Study it to determine where its slaves came from, where/when they landed in the New World, and the origin of the slave ship.
Using what you have learned from the presentations, the readings, and the essays in the database, think critically and creatively about how your particular ship fits within the history of the transatlantic slave trade. If possible, say what was happening in Africa when the slaves were taken. What was the international position of the European country from where the ship originated? What might have happened to the slaves when they landed? Were they sent elsewhere, and what industry might they have worked in? Use specific details from these secondary sources and from the database in your thread. In your response posts, politely and critically investigate your classmates’ analyses. Are there any additional factors they should consider? Are their conclusions sound?
You are required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum. Each thread must be 300 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, you are required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 150 words. Carefully review the grading rubric before submitting your posts.
