Introduction

·      State the question we are doing and the order we are going to answer it.

·      Define hate speech. (use reference)

·      Briefly talk about the different hate speeches. For example: race, religion, gender

Main Body

·      Break the question down and look at online hate speech on the internet like twitter and Facebook.  Focus the assignment around religion and Islamophobia and how hate speech has rise towards Muslims on social media. ( find case studies online to back your answers up and reference)

·      One case study we can usehttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-43367211. ( Try and find another recent case study, so use two overall)

·       Look how what speech can affect you physically, mental and emotionally. Use facts and statics. ( reference) http://theconversation.com/youve-got-hate-mail-how-islamophobia-takes-root-online-34211

·      Be critical,  For example: Muslims don’t always report hate speech as they feel they don’t have any protection or support from the police. ( look at how the MET police tackle hate speech, reference)

·      It can be tackled that when social media users may class a tweet as a free speech but however it is a hate speech as it happens on the internet and off the internet. For example when walking on the streets Muslims still feel they are targeted.

·      Talk about the labelling theory and how Muslims feel they  are labelled because of how the media portrays and how the public betrays Muslims as “terrorists”. Be critical.

·      We can then argue and say however it isn’t free speech, it is hate speech because the user stating these hate speeches, know what they are doing and what they are tweeting. Here we can bring in the self control theory.  Case study  we can use is Tommy Robinson as he promotes hate speech against Muslims. We can also state that twitter gave the authority to Tommy Robinson to have a blue tick against his name but however after complaints were made, twitter removed the blue tick against his name. ( https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/tommy-robinson-loses-twitter-verification-13910293 )

·      To finish off the main body, look at what regulations and laws are put into place for online hate speech and how we can tackle online hate speech so that numbers fall in the amount of hate speech Muslims receive. For example look at the media, policies, sensor people accounts, introduce heavy fine penalties .

·      Hate speech raised because of how the internet is globally used and how it is quick and easy to use and access.

Conclusion

·      Summarise what you have write and yes hate speech can be tackled and we can make online a saver place to be by educating and promoting hate speech by going into schools, colleges and universities.

·      Yes online hate speech should be criminalized.
