You are required to describe, interpret and synthesise the design history lectures, alongside undertaking additional defined out of class activities, to develop a written and illustrated journal. You will be making connections and identifying themes throughout history and this will inform assessment 3. This journal should be your own work and demonstrate abilities listed on the CRA.

This piece of assessment documents your historical knowledge and understanding as a result of the lecture content. It is to help you identify the history that you are passionate about and expand on this. You will learn to understand the reasons for change throughout history, the cross-overs and inter-relatedness of design in related disciplines and the selected time periods. Through this assessment we will evaluate your demonstration of these 4 unit learning outcomes:
1. Describe and discuss the relevance and purpose of the study of history to the practice of design 2. Demonstrate knowledge of the people, events, history and vocabulary of design
3. Describe and discuss the linkages between selected theoretical, social and practical design concepts and their influences on design change through history
4. Critically analyse sources and develop well-considered, logical, written responses and argument concerning design
