Code of Ethics for Nurses

Process:

1. You will need to research your own case study using the library resources explained in the PowerPoint below or other resources available to you. This needs to be a documented case in which an ethical issue was violated or in question by the courts such as the Cruzan case NOT a topic of discussion.
2. Write a 5-7page paper (body of paper) that addresses the relevance of the Code of Ethics for Nurses, including the following:

1. Describe the purpose of the Code of Ethics for Nurses.
2. Summarize key data of the case study being examined, including factual information, ethical issues (moral agent(s), ethical principles, potential or actual ethical conflict(s), and relevant contextual issues (legal, cultural, political, religious).
3. Identify the decision you would make in this case and include your reasoning for making this choice.
4. Discussion of the relevant applicable provisions of the Code of Ethics for Nurses to the selected case. Include interpretive statements for each provision that you believe are appropriate to the case and discuss why these provision(s) apply and would support the ethical decision you would make in this case.
5. Conclusion addressing how you see yourself using the Code of Ethics for Nurses in your future practice as a professional nurse.

6. Logical development and organization of ideas
7. Your case study must be the first reference you list with a working link or your paper will be given a zero grade and copied and pasted as an attachment to your paper.References are to be properly cited in the text of the paper. In addition to the course text, papers should also include references and materials from the recent academic and scholarly literature. A minimum of five references from professional sources must be listed. Note: information from newspapers, popular magazines and Wikipedia ARE NOT academic references.
8. Papers must be submitted in a .doc or .rtf format.  If submitted in any other format it will result in a zero grade – no exceptions will be made.
