BSP025 Business Environment Analysis:
You may take one of the following roles: 1) an entrepreneur planning to start-up a venture, 2) a strategy analyst working for a corporation or an investment bank. Taking a specific role will help you identify a specific business question or problem where business environment analysis can provide you insights that you can use for a decision or a recommendation.
A suggested outline for the report could be as follows:
1. What is the “business” question – What is the study trying to achieve? Why did you choose it? For example, you may be interested in expanding or launching a business and would like to know whether the business environment is favourable or not.
2. What is the relevant business environment –Introduce the specific macro and operating environment.
3. Using a suitable analysis tool (e.g. PEST) to identify the key issues in the macro business environment. You should use data and evidence to explain what underlie them. Explore the implications of these issue to your business question/problem.
4. Using a suitable analysis tool (e.g. 5 Forces or 4 Links) to identify the key issues in the operating business environment. You should use data and evidence to explain what underlie them. Explore the implications of these issue to your business question/problem.
5. You integrate your analysis of external and internal business environments to offer your recommendation and insight. This section will be about making a persuasive case about a specific recommendation or course of action.
6. Appendices (any information you could not put in the main text of the report because it would affect the flow).
7. References (Harvard style).
This final report should be approximately 5000 words and will count towards 90% of your final module mark. The deadline for the assignment is 9 May 2018, before 14.00.
As a run up to the final report, you will do a 5-minute presentation of the problem, the analysis, and the recommendation in week 8 (dates and time slots will be confirmed). This presentation counts towards 10% of the final module mark. This presentation will be based on a draft business environment analysis (see suggested outline below for individual components).
