Feminist Play
POEM CAN BE GOOGLED
“Trifles” by Susan Glaspell is a well known play for being one of the first pieces of feminist literature. A wife is being held for the murder of her husband while the officials search her house for a motive. We first note how the men undermine the women in the play, as if they’re unable to think for themselves and focus on anything important. However, it is precisely the women who put together all the pieces of the puzzle, which they will not necessarily share with the men.
Focusing on the relationship and actions of Mrs. Hale, Mrs. Peters, and Minnie Wright, comment on how this is a feminist play and what it says about gender.
