African American Psychology – Academic Writing

Students must complete a Final Paper, detailing one’s cultural experience of studying
Black/African American Psychology. Each paper must be 10-12 pages (double spaced, Times
New Roman 12pt font, not including title page or reference pages) in length. You are expected
to integrate at least five literary sources where appropriate, and include your references within a
reference page. This paper must include the following sections:

? Part I: Who Am I?
This section should provide information regarding cultural identity and diversity variables,
family and cultural upbringing, and other facets that explain your unique identity. You are
encouraged to utilize the ADDRESSING Model (Hays, 2008) and other resources for guidance
when describing cultural identity and diversity variables (which will be provided via Pilot).

? Part II: Why Does Black/African American Psychology Matter to Me?
This section should explain how/why you decided to complete this course, why the subject of
African American/Black Psychology matter to you, and other opinions regarding the utility of
the material.

? Part III: Perspectives of the Black/African American Community.
This section should provide information regarding the ways in which Black/African American
communities are perceived or viewed by others. You may discussed a variety of perspectives.

? Part IV: Strengths within the Black/African American Community.
This section should explain your opinions regarding strengths to be found within Black/African
American communities.

? Part V: Personal Evaluation of the African American Psychology Course.
This section should include details regarding your experience completing the course, any
changes you noticed in your beliefs or attitudes throughout the semester, and how completion of
the course may impact your future.
