Long Term Care Administrator-Resident Care
In the first Section we answered questions 1 & 2, so now we can define a mission statement and articulate why it is important for an organization, like AHC, to have one The third question asks: .How do we know if our mission statement measures up?
To answer this, we need to establish a standard against which to measure our mission statement. To get started, one of the common features of a good mission statement is “lineage”. Lineage refers the connections of the long term care entity to the “parent” organization. The facility may be a wholly owned subsidiary of the parent, or there may be a less structured relationship. The parent may be a proprietary business, a religious order, or a voluntary association. As part of the mission statement, such affiliations should be disclosed. For many facilities, the affiliation is a point of pride. The facility wants to be associated with the parent. For example, a mission statement might read, “East Texas Rehabilitation Center, as part of the Arrington Healthcare System,…”
It is your task to identify and submit to the Chief Training Officer at least three characteristics of a good mission statement. Discuss why you think these characteristics are important. You may use Lineage as one of the characteristics.
