The English dictionary defines gender for a word that’s usually utilized to refer to the quality of a human being either masculine or feminine. However, the word gender these days is used to refer to the debate about the role of both male and female members of society. In the previous years, the functions of both people were clearly defined with all the men being the breadwinners while the girls were the care providers for both the children and the men who were their husbands.

But with the structure of society has changed so drastically in the last couple of decades, the clear line which defined the role of both people has been blurred as their functions have overlapped with time. It’s no longer enough to categorize the male sex as the supplier for the household or the feminine gender as the caregiver for your family. The definition of both male and female genders is no longer clear with members of the two genders performing roles which were initially reserved for the other sex. Men are no longer the sole providers for their own families since women have been economically empowered and are currently running big businesses competing with their male counterparts. Women are also not the sole caregivers for their children as more guys are now opting to become stay at home mothers so that they can take care of their children.

What are men good for?

The main role reserved for guys as providers was the defining role that’s been the guiding principle in society with regard to what society expects of their male inhabitants. However, this role has been usurped by women in the contemporary society that currently work and also provide for their households. The time for girls to stay in the home while their guys go to work is extended past as women hold high positions in several large organizations worldwide. Women have proven themselves as able workers who can deliver in the office and in many cases have performed better than men in places such as customer service agents and even as secretaries. On the other hand, the transformation of girls from housewives into corporate leaders hasn’t been without a struggle as women have had to fight for their position in society as compared to men. In the present society, people have many women who have high leadership positions in large corporations, and such businesses have succeeded even under female leadership to show that women are just as great as men if not improved.
In the past it was the role of the women to be the primary caregiver to the kids, who also included caring for their husbands, however, this function, is no longer reserved for women as more men decide to become stay-at-home mothers so that they can care for their children. These men who stay home and take care of their children take on a role that’s been shunned by men for centuries as it had been believed that men didn’t have the quality of nurture. It was firmly believed that only women could nurture children, especially in their twenties when they are fully determined by their caregivers. This means that men too can nurture a young child and give it the exact same attention that a girl would give to the same kid. Although men might not be able to breastfeed a child, which was the primary reason that most of society believed that only girls could care for infants, they can provide care in many different ways. It is now evident that men also can cultivate a young kid as the primary caregiver and that this role isn’t just reserved for ladies, which is just another changing face of sex.
A third role which has been designated for girls was that they had been supposed to be subservient to men, attending to all of the requirements of their husbands and encouraging them. This role included things such as washing their husband’s clothes, cooking for their husbands, cleaning the house in addition to washing the children’s clothing. It was clearly defined that the husband had executive power in the household and his every wish was to be obeyed without question. However, this power has shifted greatly in recent years as women no longer have the lesser function in associations, but are thought to be equals with men. Most associations are now extremely consultative where the remarks of both partners carry equal weight and no spouse has authority over another partner. Men are not the masters while women are relegated to being their servants, in most conditions, men will be found carrying out some of the chores such as cleaning the house or even doing the laundry.
In conclusion, it is clear that the characters of both the female and the male gender in society have been changing considerably as has been demonstrated above. Men are no longer the sole providers as more women are currently working and have high leadership positions in major companies, which mean that girls will also be acting as solutions to their families. It is also apparent that women are no longer the sole caregivers for their children as more men are opting to become stay at home mothers so that they can take care of their children. It is clear now that the definition of gender has evolved considerably over time.
