Gender Essay Paper Sample

Introduction

The English dictionary defines gender for a word that’s commonly used to refer to the quality of a human being either masculine or feminine. On the other hand, the word sex these days is used to refer to the debate about the function of both female and male members of society. In the previous years the functions of both men and women were clearly defined together with all the guys being the breadwinners while the women were the maintenance providers for the children and the guys who were their husbands.

However, together with all the arrangement of culture has changed so radically in the past few decades, the clear line which defined the function of both men and women has now been blurred as their functions have difficulty with time. It’s no longer sufficient to categorize the male sex as the provider for the household or the female sex as the caregiver for your family. The definition of the male and female genders is no longer apparent with members of both sexes performing roles which were initially reserved for another sex. Men are no longer the sole providers for their own families as girls are economically permitted and are now running big businesses competing with their male counterparts.
The main role reserved for men as suppliers was the defining role that has been the guiding principle in society with regard to the society expects of the male inhabitants. However, this role has been usurped by women in modern society who now work and provide for their households. The time for women to stay at home while their men go to work is extended past as women hold high positions in many large organizations globally. Women have shown themselves as able workers that are able to deliver at the workplace and in many cases have done better than men in positions such as customer service agents and even as secretaries. However, the transformation of girls by housewives into corporate leaders has not been without a struggle as women have had to struggle for their position in society as equals with men. The initial discrimination that they faced in previous decades since most employers favored male employees to women has been eroded via a fighting spirit and determination to prove to society that they too can get the job done. In the current society, we have many girls who have high leadership positions in big corporations, and such companies have succeeded even under female leadership to prove that women are just as good as men if not better.
In the past it was the use of the girls to be the primary caregiver to the kids, who also included caring for their husbands, however, this function, is no longer reserved for girls as more men decide to become stay-at-home mothers so that they can care for their children. These guys who stay home and look after their kids take on a role that has been shunned by men for centuries since it was thought that men didn’t have the caliber of nurture. It was strongly believed that only women could nurture children, especially during their formative years when they are fully determined by their caregivers. It follows that men too can nurture a child and give it the same care that a woman would contribute to the identical child. Although men might not be able to breastfeed a child, that was the main reason that most of society believed that only girls could care for infants, they can provide care in many different ways. It is now evident that men too can nurture a young child as the primary caregiver and that this role isn’t only reserved for women, which is just another changing face of gender.
A third party which has been designated for girls was that they were supposed to be subservient to men, attending to all of the needs of the husbands and encouraging them. This role included things such as washing their husband’s clothing, cooking to get their husbands, cleaning the house in addition to washing the children’s clothing. It had been clearly defined that the husband had executive power in the family and that his every desire was to be obeyed without question. But this power has changed greatly in recent decades as women no longer have the lesser role in relationships, but are thought to be equals with men. Most relationships are now extremely consultative where the opinions of both partners carry equal weight without a spouse has authority over the other partner. Men are not the masters while women are relegated to being their servants, in many situations, men are available carrying out some of the chores such as cleaning the house or even doing the laundry room.

Why is it so difficult for women and men?

To conclude, it’s apparent that the roles of the female and the male gender in society have been changing considerably as was shown above. Men are not the only providers as more girls are currently working and have top leadership positions in major businesses, which mean that girls are also acting as solutions to their families. It is clear now that the definition of gender has evolved greatly over time.
