Project 2: Journaling the first three weeks of class.
We have a wide variety of readings for this class. As part of learning activities, we will write our thoughts down in a journal for the first three weeks of class. This will help you to work on the other projects we have in this class.
Your journal will be turned in at the end of each week. I will provide comments back to you within a few days of each week’s submission. By simply turning in your journal on time each week, you earn 10 points for each week you turn in your work on time. The other 70 points can be earned from integration and synthesis with class readings, viewings, podcasts, and discussions, as relevant to addressing questions asked.
For each week, you should address and integrate as many of these questions as possible:
Week 1 Questions:
(1) Where in your own life do you experience the “split between what we think and what we do” that Michael Pollan refers to?
(2) Michael Pollan writes, “If you bother, you will set an example for other people.” Whose example has inspired you?
(3) What was the most striking reading, viewing, podcast, or conversation you have had in Week 1? Explain why.
(4) What behavior would you like to change that would contribute toward sustainability? Share what it might take to change that behavior and how that behavior change would be a step toward sustainability.
Week 2 Questions:
(1) Could you use the factors toward behavior change that you learned bout this week to change the behavior you most want to change? Explain why or why not.
(2) After learning about the state of our earth in the first two weeks of class, what most concerns you and why?
(3) What do you think is the role of individuals and society in changing the state we are in?
Week 3 Questions:
(1) What was the most striking reading, viewing, podcast, or conversation you have had in Week 3? Explain why.
(2) Given what Bob Inglis told us about why he was “against climate change”, can you hypothesize why understanding biogeochemical cycles and learning how to listen and converse are very important aspects of sustainability?
(3) Review what I have written to you the past two weeks and provide responses as appropriate based upon the concepts we have learned combined with your past
