1 Demonstrate the following knowledge and understanding
• Evaluate the key concepts underpinning your role during the administration of anaesthesia in oral/maxillofacial surgery, obstetric interventions, and urgent, emergency and other non-scheduled surgery. On behalf of the patient, identify care that is appropriate to the patient’s needs. Design a culture of compassion and support for patients and their significant others in the anaesthetic room as part of the interprofessional team.
• Review current practices in the clinical setting as related to anaesthetic care differentiating between excellent, evidence based perioperative patient care from care that is of poor standard. Identify a critical incident related to your anaesthetic practice as it pertains to trauma, non-scheduled, oral/maxillofacial, obstetric, and paediatric surgery.
2 Demonstrate the following skills and abilities
• Plan and implement evidence based anaesthetic care for patients undergoing oral/maxillofacial surgery, obstetric interventions, and urgent, emergency and other non-scheduled surgery with the aim of enhancing service provision and patient safety. Design, illustrate, and critique a culture of compassion and support for patients and their significant others in the anaesthetic room as part of the interprofessional team.
• Use a model of reflection and explore the possible impact of suboptimal quality patient care upon the perioperative patient.
• Use a variety of current and credible sources of information to inform your essay and strengthen your critique.
