Queue configuration and improvement of efficiency.

At one moment I had to wait in line queue in a bank for over an hour. I was irritated because the other lines were moving. The teller had an issue with the money counting machine which forced her to count the money the money manually hence dragging the whole process. It was one of the worst and horrible moment for especially considering that I had to deposit money for my college fee.

The queue configuration was single channel, multiple phases. There were five tellers in the bank serving the customers. The customers formed five queues each queue leading to a teller. The arrival process of the customers was in bulk since it was the start of the term and therefore the students and parents were paying college fee. The queue characteristics were on first come first served. However, those who happened to find themselves in my queue had to wait longer than the others. The scenario in the bank was a finite population where when people were served they left hence reducing the population of people on the bank.

The best and efficient way of improving the movement of the queue was to provide a money counting machine. This would help the teller serving in my queue to have an easier time and provide the service in the most efficient manner. It would also help if the number of people using my queue was reduced. There needed to be someone to direct the people to other queues that were moving faster. It may have inconvenienced the bank but in the long run, it would it will increase customer service perception and satisfaction.
