For an athlete to maintain a successful career, they must be mindful of their quality and amount of sleep they get since both quality and enough sleep enables the brain and body to reenergize after intense training and competitions. With interrupted sleeping sessions, the body lacks enough time to rest and release hormones, in addition, the brain does not get ample time to repair memories and consolidate them. A good example is the revelation by the renowned tennis player Serena Williams, she told a U.K based publications that apart from proper dieting she loves going to bed as early as 7 p.m. as it enhances her athletic performance and also increases her split-second decision making since tennis is a highly intensive sport which requires quick decision making; a slight blunder in making a decision can highly cost the player (Halson, 2014).

The data to be obtained would include information and results from personal interviews as well as statistics from athletes on how quality sleep affects their performance or lack thereof. The qualitative data would include how various athletes handle their sleep and balancing between sleeping, training, competition and other personal activities. The quantitative data would focus more on the various effects of lack of quality sleep among athletes and how the probability of its effects on their daily performances as well as their general health and well-being. Therefore, this research project would include both methods of data analysis, i.e. statistical and Witten results.

The qualitative and quantitative data would be used in a complementary manner. In this instance, the qualitative set of data would be collected and analyzed at the same time with the quantitative data as well as help in the follow-up and verification of the quantitative data collected to help understand the exact meaning of the figures. Results from the quantitative data collected will be extended and triangulated using the qualitative method of data analysis. The quantitative data would focus more on inquiring on exact variables and testing a specific research hypothesis, while the qualitative data would suit in the opening of the interconnected study complexities in this particular topic.

With the right search engines on the internet, I am assured to get numerous studies done that pertains the essentiality of sleep in enhancing athletic performances. I would then select the relevant content suitable for my project as well as the reliable and verifiable data that suit my work by focusing on well-tested results such as peer-reviewed articles and university journals as well as scientific publications.
  2. With the proper search questions and keywords, I would look for appropriate databases in order to retrieve appropriate articles. I would focus more on bibliographic databases that contain published literature such as journals, articles and newspapers, academic research papers and conference proceedings as well as legal and government reports and publications.
