Gathering and effectively communicating scientific facts, figures, and information are key skills of environmental science graduates to participate and contribute to evidence-based innovative solutions and management of environmental issues. A good poster presentation offers an effective and interactive tool to engage and communicate with people on a particular environmental issue. Poster presentations are used increasingly during scientific conferences and public-engagement events.
Task: Prepare and present a Written Digital Poster (A3 size) and a Short (~ 3 minutes) Audio
and/or Video of major freshwater issues in a region of your choice.
Tips:
1. Describe major freshwater issues in a specific region or industry/production system. You can
choose to study a whole country or a particular locality or region within a country, and a
particular industry/production system (e.g. dairy farming, energy production, textile industry).
Collate and present relevant facts, figures, and information to communicate the importance and
extent of major freshwater issues in that region or associated with the case study
industry/production system.
2. Identify the relevant stakeholders and explain how they contribute to the pressures on the
freshwater and/or are impacted by the freshwater issues. Consider impacts on the freshwater
ecosystems, the economy, development, human livelihoods and health.
3. Describe current, proposed, or possible future actions to mitigate the impact of the freshwater
issues in the case study region or the industry/production system. Consider the roles of science
and technology, individual responsibility and awareness, right through to government legislation.
4. Use a variety of information sources such as published articles, technical reports, online
databases, etc. Make good use of your lectures and readings to guide your search for relevant
information. You can include key figures, tables, and diagrams from the relevant sources. Make
sure that you have permission to use them (consider sources with Creative Commons Licence)
and their sources are properly acknowledged and referenced.
5. Referencing needs to be consistent, and enable the marker to easily find the cited piece again.

Evaluation: Your poster presentation will be evaluated (out of 100 marks) for its clarity and visual
quality (10 marks), structure layout and formatting (10 marks), context and content (facts,
supportive figures, and critical analysis) (50 marks), and effectiveness and communication (30
marks).
