Benefits Of Using Your Library

Yes, borrowing books is a great way to use your library, but there are so many other benefits than just that. Libraries typically try to get new releases of books and DVD’s. You can borrow that latest, greatest book or movie from the library. That can really add up. Borrowing movies from the library can save you lots of money each month. Escpecially if you have kids who want to watch new things all the time. You know, this week they are into Bob the Builder, but next week it is Little Einstein. Most people do not watch the same movie over and over again, so purchasing a movie is not the best option for many. The cheapest option is borrowing from the library.

I can hear you now, saying you don’t have enough time to go dig through the shelves of your library looking for the exact movie or book that you are wanting. I do most of my library searching on the internet. My library is connected to most of the state and I can get just about anything I am interested in. On my library’s website I can request anything and have it sent to any library I want. All I have to do is go by and pick it up. This takes no more than a few minutes and I have exactly what I need. The library offers so many classes for kids and adults. My kids have benefited from story time, science classes, arts and crafts times, and even cooking classes. For adults at my library they offer sewing, cooking, finance, and gardening classes. We are going to try our hand at organic gardening and this week my library is offering a class on beneficial insects in your garden.

This is free, as are most classes offered at libraries. There are even book clubs at my library. These opportunities are a great way to get out and meet new people, learn new things, and have some fun – for free! My library has become a great place for teenagers to hang out. It does help that they have a teen room. When school gets out, waves of children come through the doors to hang out together and do homework and study. They love it and it keeps them safe, doing something beneficial. There are even staff on-site to help younger children with homework. How about music and magazines? The library has that too. I have requested many CD’s from my library and have had good luck with them all. Most libraries carry a great selection of magazines for you to look at. I personally don’t like the clutter and trash that magazine subscriptions create.

And the subsrciptions generally cost money. I can read just about any magazine I want at the library for free. When I am done, someone else can benefit from that same magazine. Did you know you can also check magazines out from the library? I have been bringing home a few magazines each week about organic gardening and herbs. I can look at them as I please and not only are they free, there is a wealth of information and pictures in them. Generally you cannot borrow the latest copy of any magazine, but any of the back issues are up for grabs. So have I convinced you yet? And it costs nothing! I love scouting libraries for books on finance, web design, marketing, SEO stock market trading and investing and basically any topic that I deem valuable and usable in my money making adventures. You can even request your local library purchase a specific resource if it doesn’t already have it! 70 to buy. And after I read them then what? My problem is I can’t bear to borrow books in case I enjoy them. I know that may sound odd, but if I enjoy a book I must own it and then I end up paying for a book I’ve already read!
