Please focus on any two of the questions below. Be sure to use a) direct quotes from the poems and b) literary terminology.

1. Robert Frost is known for his “meditative sobriety” (1443). He presented truths about humanity in simple common objects.  What is Frost suggesting about humanity in any three of the poems listed under “Required Reading”? Please provide supportive evidence (at least one direct quote) from the reading.
2. In what ways is Amy Lowell an “Imagist” poet? Also, would you describe Lowell’s poem “Patterns” as feminist? Write your analyses and refer directly to lines in the poem to support your readings.
3. Read a few poems by Wallace Stevens, such as “The Snowman” (p.1552), “Sunday Morning” (p. 1549); “Of Modern Poetry” (p. 1557); and “The Plain Sense of Things” (p. 1558). How is Steven’s poetry different from Robert Frost’s? Do you see any similarities?
